Where Poetry Meets Art: Indigo Starling at Cloud Galleries

Join us on Thursday, August 20, for Pages She Will Carry by Indigo Starling, Poetry Celebration, featuring live music, poetry readings, and a virtual book launch at Cloud Galleries.

Cloud Galleries has long celebrated a wide range of artistic expression.

Gallery Indigoskye adds another dimension by placing poetry at the center of the experience.

Created by poet, author, and artist Indigo Starling, the gallery combines original poetry with her own artwork, inviting visitors to experience words and images as a single work of art.

For visitors exploring the galleries, it offers a chance to experience poetry not as words on a page, but as an exhibition that unfolds one piece at a time.

Indigo Starling Brings a Lifetime of Creativity to Second Life

Indigo Starling arrives at Cloud Galleries with decades of creative experience spanning both the real and virtual worlds.

She is Poet Laureate Emerita of Anaheim, California, an author, publisher, writing coach, speaker, and artist whose career has stretched across more than twenty-five years.

For many years she traveled the juried art show circuit throughout Southern California.

Where she showcased her handcrafted jewelry, artwork, and books beneath what she laughingly describes as her familiar 10-by-10 white canopy.

Today, while she continues speaking at conferences and conventions, much of her creative work has found a new home in Second Life.

Rather than slowing down, Indigo has simply found a different way to share her work and connect with readers and fellow creatives.

Poetry You Can Walk Through

Unlike a traditional gallery, every piece displayed in Gallery Indigoskye begins with an original poem.

Indigo pairs each poem with artwork she creates herself, using watercolor, gouache, or digital media before combining the finished elements into a single composition.

The result is artwork that invites visitors to read as well as look.

Every poem, every painted background, and every finished piece is created by Indigo herself, reflecting the same hands-on craftsmanship that has defined her creative work for decades.

Indigoskye More Than an Art Gallery

When I asked Indigo about her hopes for Cloud Galleries, she didn’t talk about her next book or exhibition.

“I would like to see CSC gain a writing and poetry community of its own.”

Gallery Indigoskye is already helping to make that vision a reality.

By introducing poetry as a new artistic medium, Indigo opens the door to readings, workshops, and creative collaborations that complement the visual arts already on display.

Creativity Feeding Creativity

Many Second Life residents already know Indigo through Indigoskye Press in Port Emyniad.

There she publishes books, hosts regular co-working sessions for writers, and welcomes writers looking for encouragement and creative fellowship..

Indigoskye Press complements Gallery Indigoskye. One supports writers throughout the creative process, while the other showcases the finished work through exhibitions that combine poetry and visual art.

Together they reflect Indigo’s belief that creativity flourishes when it is shared.

Poetry A Season of New Work

This has been an especially productive time for Indigo.

Her newest poetry collection, Pages She Will Carry, has just been published under her real-world name, Wendy Van Camp. And will be celebrated in Second Life through her avatar, Indigo Starling.

The collection explores women’s stories through narrative poetry and lyrical verse, themes that will take center stage during the August 20 celebration at Cloud Galleries.

Indigo says improving health, growing friendships within Second Life, and her continuing work supporting speculative poetry and prose have left her feeling “very fulfilled and of service.”

That renewed creative energy is already finding its way into new books, exhibitions, and plans for poetry workshops at Cloud Galleries.

Owl’s Notes

Walking through Gallery Indigoskye, I found myself slowing down. Instead of moving quickly from image to image, I stopped to read. The poetry became part of the exhibition, changing the way I experienced each piece.

Poetry isn’t new to Cloud Galleries. Artists such as Clyte have long woven words into their artwork. What makes Gallery Indigoskye unique is that the entire gallery is devoted to poetry as its primary artistic medium.

That feels like a natural addition to the creative community that has grown around Cloud Galleries. Whether you come to admire the artwork, read the poetry, attend a workshop, or simply explore something new, Gallery Indigoskye offers another way to experience art in Second Life.

If you’ve never experienced poetry in Second Life, Pages She Will Carry: A Poetry Celebration is a wonderful place to begin.
