Tabula rasa is a Latin phrase often translated as “clean slate“.
“Tabula rasa is the theory that individuals are born without built-in mental content, and therefore all knowledge comes from experience or perception. Epistemological proponents of tabula rasa disagree with the doctrine of innatism, which holds that the mind is born already in possession of certain knowledge.”

While I have no real certainty of what Theda Tammas is saying with her Art. I do believe Theda’s minimalism with information means the intention is for you to think and come to your own conclusions.
After sitting with her work I found myself musing about a clean slate or new beginnings. Can we begin anew with things we have put a lot of energy and time into? I feel like we can and although we start with a clean slate we do bring with us all the lessons we have learned. I would have to say I lean more in belief of the doctrine of innatatism as we are mammals and there is proof mammals are born with migratory information. But to be honest this is all out of my depth I just loved taking the time to feel immersed in the Art Installation “tabula rasa” that Theda created.
Theda Tammas is an Artist from Brasil, currently expressing Theda through digital ART in Second Life. Theda has been sharing her 3d second life creations since 2007.
“What is your work about?
Theda: I try to show what touches me, giving soul to my work. Most of the time I talk about myself. Many people say its sad what I do, but sadness is not a bad thing in my view, maybe I am still looking for something I did not found yet. Also, I am RL frustrated artist, had to give up making RL art because of life. So SL gives me the window to vent my thoughts.”
