Do you know Lluis Indigo?

If you’ve spent much time around live music in Second Life, there’s a good chance you’ve crossed paths with Lluis Indigo.

But there’s quite a bit more to Lluis than the musician you see standing on a virtual stage with a guitar.

Lluis Garcia is a musician, CG (computer graphics) artist and 3D creator, virtual-world builder, and creative explorer from Barcelona.

He joined Second Life in September 2007, drawn to the possibilities of creating three-dimensional environments where other people could actually enter, explore, and interact with what he made.

Over the years, he has created 3D objects, virtual environments, and scripted experiences for Second Life and other virtual worlds.

And he’s still building. His Second Life Marketplace shop continues to feature new creations, including PBR environments and objects alongside work that reaches all the way back through Second Life’s building history.

In other words, Lluis doesn’t just perform inside virtual worlds.

He builds them, too.

More than music: Lluis Indigo is still creating for Second Life. His Mayan Meditating Cat is part of his current collection of PBR creations.

And Then There’s the Music

Second Life musician Lluis Indigo has been playing music since childhood. Largely self-taught and playing by ear, he began playing around age seven and performing publicly by fourteen.

He has also studied music theory, and in 2017 began putting much more of his creative energy into music and guitar.

His Second Life performances bring together electric guitar, vocals, live looping, and improvisation.

That looping is an important part of what makes a Lluis performance different. He can record musical phrases while he plays, layer new sounds over them, and gradually build something much larger from what began with a single guitar.

Familiar songs can wander into unexpected territory. Rock, rumba, metal, original instrumentals, and experimentation can all find their way into a set.

You don’t necessarily know exactly where Lluis is going when he starts.

That’s part of the fun.

Lluis Indigo A Familiar Sound for Me

I’ve been listening to and booking Lluis since my Commune Utopia days before Corsica South Coasters even existed.

Since then, he’s become a familiar performer at the Tea Garden, returning to play there many times over the years.

He’s also become something of a Hippiestock regular, performing at the festival every year from 2023 through 2026 — and he’ll be back again for Hippiestock 2027.

Somewhere along the way, Lluis has also appeared in at least eleven posts here on Through Owl’s Eye, usually tucked into festival stories, monthly roundups, event coverage, and other wanderings through Second Life.

And apparently I’ve been pointing my camera at him for quite a while, too.

The photo below, “Lluis Indigo Jamming,” dates all the way back to May 2017.

More Than Music

Music may be the way many of us know Lluis Indigo, but it’s only one part of his creative world.

There’s also 3D modeling, computer graphics, virtual environments, digital art, code, and interactive design.

He began working with Blender around the same time he discovered Second Life, using the virtual world as a place to experiment with something rather wonderful: creating an object or environment on a computer and then watching other people actually step inside it, use it, and experience it.

That work eventually expanded beyond Second Life into other virtual platforms and game engines, but Second Life remains part of what he creates.

There’s another musical side to him, too. As SYNTH1C, Lluis explores his long-standing interest in electronic music. He describes roots stretching back to the electronic scene of the 1990s, with sounds that have evolved toward trance and techno.

Guitarist. Builder. 3D artist. Electronic musician. Experimenter.

Perhaps that’s why the description Lluis uses for himself fits so well:

“I create immersive sonic worlds.”

Nearly twenty years after he first arrived in Second Life, he’s still doing exactly that — experimenting, building, playing, and seeing where the combination of music, technology, and imagination might lead next.

And on October 28, we get another chance to hear where it takes him.
