Rissa: Music-Inspired Photography at Maison de la Chouette

Some exhibits begin with an image.

This one begins with a song.

On May 19, Rissa opens a new photography exhibit at Maison de la Chouette—an exploration of light, shadow, and the quiet moments that sit just beneath both.

Seeing Through Sound

Rissa’s (Carissa Triellis) work doesn’t start with composition or editing.

It starts with a feeling—usually triggered by music.

“I found that I saw things that made a song pop in my head. That became the foundation of my photographs.” Rissa

She shoots raw, with little to no post-processing. What you see is what she saw—captured in the moment, shaped by light, and often grounded in shadow.

Her images move across places and mood:

  • a passing scene
  • a constructed moment
  • a fragment that feels familiar without fully explaining itself

Each piece is titled after the song that sparked it.

And sometimes, if it lands right, you don’t just see the image—

you hear it.

Listening Thread

A few of the songs behind Rissa’s music inspiered photography:

You may recognize one.
Or leave with one stuck in your head.

Light, Shadow, and What Lingers

There’s a quiet honesty in the way Rissa works.

Shadows aren’t something she corrects—they’re something she leans into.

They hold weight. They shape the image. They leave space for interpretation.

Some photographs feel like pauses.
Others feel like something just about to happen.

All of them carry that underlying thread of music—sometimes obvious, sometimes just out of reach.

The Setting: Maison de la Chouette in Second Life

Located within the NovaOwl area of Corsica South Coasters, Maison de la Chouette is a space built around slowing down.

Wine, art, and conversation share the same rhythm here.

The winery uses local grapes—traditionally crushed by foot—and yes, visitors are welcome to take part. The tasting rooms rotate featured artists every two months, creating a steady flow of new work within a familiar setting.

Maison de la Chouette is a place that invites you to linger:

  • to walk the space
  • to sit with the work
  • to let things unfold at their own pace

  • Music by Riff Gaffer, bringing old-school jazz and soulful selections into the space

Come See, Come Listen at Maison de la Chouette

If you’ve spent time in Second Life photography spaces, you’ll recognize the difference here.

This isn’t about heavy edits or spectacle.

It’s about noticing—
and the way an image can hold onto a feeling long enough for you to catch it.
