(You can almost smell the salt in the air. The wind carries a softness, like something just remembered. Clouds gather on the horizon, and the shoreline stretches aheadâquiet, open, waiting.
This is the mood of Sea Swept, the newest exhibit by Kitten ( Joanna Kitten). Now showing at HeArt & Soul Gallery through July and August 2025. The collection is filled with coastal dreamscapes, light-soaked stillness, and moments that feel both distant and deeply familiar.

About the Artist: Joanna Kitten
Kitten (Joanna Kitten) began her Second Life photography journey in 2020. It started with a photo competition at the sim where she worked. Inspired by what she saw, she picked up her cameraâand never put it down.
She captures all her images using the Black Dragon Viewer, known for its precision and control. From there, she edits in Affinity Photo, refining each image with care. The result is work that feels both grounded and ethereal.
Kittenâs love for nature runs deep. Her photography often features the sea, skies, and soft light. Sheâs drawn to exotic ruins, umbrellas, parasols, and the way sunlight dances on water. Her compositions are rarely staged. Instead, they feel discoveredâlike moments found on a walk, not created in a studio.
She is also deeply involved in the SL art world. Kitten owns and curates Ammonite Photography and Gallery, where her work is always on display. She accepts commissions for portraits, events, and custom landscapes to decorate Second Life homes. She teaches photography classes at The Grove Art Center and writes reviews for Focus Magazineâs Art on Tour.
Kitten doesnât just take picturesâshe invites us to slow down. To look. To wander. To remember that even in a virtual world, the beauty of light and land can still move us.

Kitten at the beach by Joanna Kitten
Spotlight Work: Seascape
One of the most arresting pieces in Sea Swept is Seascape, taken at Pususaari. In this image, Joanna Kitten distills the ache and allure of the sea into a moment of stillness. A single figure faces the horizon, wrapped in light and solitude. Thereâs no need for explanation. You can almost feel the salt on your skin.
The muted tones give way to a soft glow, like memory made visible. Itâs not posedâitâs found. As with much of Kittenâs work, the natural world does the talking. The result is both simple and deeply emotional.
This image is paired with lyrics from Iggy Popâs I Want to Go to the Beach, adding an edge of restless honesty beneath the calm:
âI don’t know where my spirit went
But that’s alright…
Particles of pain in my brain
I guess they’re here to stayâŠâ
The piece captures the heart of the exhibitâlonging, escape, and the strange comfort of silence. Seascape feels like a pause. A breath. A beach day for the soul.

Learning with Kitten: The Evolution of a Photograph
Joanna Kitten doesnât just make art. She shares what sheâs learned along the way.
On Tuesday, June 24 at 1 PM SLT. Kitten will be giving a talk at The Grove Art Center in Second Life. The class is called The Evolution of a Photograph. Itâs a chance to learn how her photos take shapeâfrom the first idea to the finished image.
Sheâll also reflect on her own growth as an artist. Since 2020, her work has changed. So has the way she sees the world around herâboth in Second Life and beyond.
This session is open to everyone. Whether you take photos or just love looking at them, youâll walk away inspired.
