🌥️ Cloud Galleries Artist Spotlight. A blog series celebrating the creative voices who make their home in our boutique gallery spaces. Each artist brings a unique vision to Second Life. These spotlights share their stories, art, and the perspectives they offer through their work.
This week, we step into the vibrant, emotional world of Starz McCullough. An artist whose hand-drawn pieces and photographs are as full of soul as they are of color. Her gallery is a journey of healing and discovery. It celebrates the joy of making marks just to see where they lead.

🖌️ Meet Starz
Starz joined Second Life in 2008. This was during what she describes as her “lost soul” years.
Over time, SL became a place for reflection, expression, and growth. Her real-life creative space, StarZ Art Corner, shares its name with her gallery presence in-world.
“With photography, I like to share how I see things in our RL world… flowers, bugs, rusty things, old wood—I see beauty in everything.”
“With my drawings and paintings, it’s therapeutic. I can look at a piece and know what I was going through at that time.”
Her art is deeply tied to personal experience and emotional honesty. She creates to connect, to reflect, and to remind others of the beauty that surrounds us.

🌀 Color, Emotion, and the Unexpected
Starz describes her style as “abstract conglomerations”. A phrase that perfectly captures the layered, color-rich, and emotionally charged nature of her work. Whether she’s working with photographs or hand-drawn compositions, her art carries weight beneath its vibrant surface.
One standout piece currently on display is “Obstacles.” It shows a young woman standing before a rock—vulnerable but determined. Behind her, a grid of strings represents the pathways of life—some knotted, some mended.
“It embodies the spirit of all of us women. We are strong. We got this.”
Many pieces begin with nothing more than a single mark. For example, “Saros” started with the curve of a dress and grew from there. Starz works without a plan, letting the piece guide her—and trusting meaning to reveal itself along the way.

🖍️ Materials & Method
Starz creates with colored pencils and inks, building rich textures and expressive outlines. Her process is intuitive: she begins with a line, then lets emotion and imagination shape what follows. She calls this an act of exploration, not execution.
Alongside her hand-drawn work, she shares unedited real-life photography. Elevating the beauty in things she sees: peeling paint, broken surfaces, hidden corners. For Starz, art is about noticing and revealing.
🖼️ In Her Cloud Galleries Space
Starz’s boutique gallery is a radiant extension of her spirit. It’s a space where bold colors meet deep emotion, and where every wall tells part of her story. Texture, contrast, and intuitive design create a gallery that’s both visually exciting and emotionally resonant.
Each work feels like its own little universe—some joyful, some raw, all personal. Within these pieces, you’ll find threads of memory, healing, strength, and beauty.
Walking through her gallery is like stepping into a diary written in color, shadow, and courage.
